Springs

A broken spring is the usual reason a door suddenly feels too heavy or the opener hums and the door stays put. Many doors have two springs, and when one goes the other is often close behind. We replace springs at the house.

Cables and rollers

A loose or frayed cable is a reason to stop using the door. Rollers are the small wheels that ride in the track. Worn rollers are a common reason a door rattles or grinds. Both are everyday repair work for us.

Off-track doors

If the door jumped the track, stop hitting the remote. Running the opener can bend the track worse and crease a panel. Call and we will get it back in line, then check what pulled it off.

Panels and hardware

A dented panel can sometimes be swapped without replacing the whole door. Sometimes the damage runs into the hardware and a new door is the cleaner fix. We will say which one it is after we see it. Hinges, brackets, and bottom fixtures are part of the same visit when they are the problem.

Openers and sensors

If the door starts down and reverses, the photo eyes at the floor are a common cause. If nothing happens at all, it may be the opener, the wall button, or a remote. Opener work is covered on the opener page.

• Whether the door is single or double, if you know
• What it did: a bang, a grind, no movement, or it reversed
• Whether a car is stuck inside
